Gannets at Helgoland

Part of the German state of Schleswig-Holstein since 1890, the island of Helgoland is located about 69 km off the German coast.

Its 60-metre-high cliffs are the ideal breeding ground for the Gannet. This seabird only comes ashore to breed. It spends the rest of the year at sea. To catch fish, it makes spectacular diving flights.

Enjoy the images of Gannets soaring through the sky, nesting on the cliffs, and displaying their vibrant plumage against the dramatic landscapes of Helgoland.

“The best wildlife photographers are patient observers, immersing themselves in the moment to capture the true essence of the subject.”
